Japanese Food: Ko-Ebi

Now here is a sweet tasting dish you must try when you visit Japan. Ko Ebi basically translates as baby prawn and funnily enough, that’s what we are displaying here ! I was told that they were originally – many decades back, that this was a New Year dish, and as such, sugar was used to coat them to be used as storage, as there was no refrigeration. Obviously the little guys are cooked and scattered freely over a bowl of steaming hot rice makes for a sweet tasting snack. Itadakimasu !
